The fourth study visit of TWIN Project was held between 24-28 February 2020 in Czechia. Representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs, Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Union of Provinces, Counties Association, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Directorate-General of Local Authorities, Mayors of Çanakkale and Uşak and the General Secretary of Sivas Special Provincial Administration participated in the visit organized with the aim to establish sustainable cooperation and partnership by banding the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Counties Association and local government representatives together with their counterparts in Czechia.
Republic of Turkey, Turkish Embassy in Prague
On the first day of the study visit, Turkish Embassy in Prague was visited. Ambassador Egemen BAĞIŞ informed the delegation about bilateral relations of Turkey and the Czechia, the EU membership process, commercial and cultural relations between the two countries and the structure of the local government of Czechia.
Union of Towns and Municipalities
The second visit of the day was made to the Union of Towns and Municipalities, the counterpart institution of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey. The visit took place with the participation of the Director of the Union of Towns and Municipalities, Radka Vladyková, officials of the Foreign Relations Unit and Union experts and views were exchanged on the local authorities structures of both countries and potential areas of co-operation for strengthening inter-agency town twinning activities.
Prague Municipality
On the second day of the program, the delegation visited the Prague Municipality. During this visit, Martin Churavý, the head of the Foreign Relations and Protocol Department of Municipality of Prague, and the municipal authorities exchanged information on the projects in the field of town twinning and areas for cooperation.
Association of Regions in the Czechia
The second visit of the day was made to the Association of Regions in the Czechia, the counterpart institution of the Counties Association in the Czech Republic. During the visit, the President of the Association of Regions in the Czech Republic, Eva Vrbová, and the representatives of the Department of Foreign Relations discussed the issues of sustainable co-operation and partnership.
Karlovy Vary Municipality
On the last day of the fourth study visit of the TWIN Project, Karlovy Vary Municipality, which is about 130 km from Prague where thermal tourism is well-developed, was visited. Here, the delegation met Mayor Andrea Pfeffer Ferklováve and the representatives of the municipality to learn more about Karlovy Vary and the projects the municipality is carrying out. Afterwards, issues such as prospective areas for cooperation and projects to partner in were discussed. The TWIN Project's study visit ended on 28 February 2020 and the delegation returned to Turkey.
